Anonymous asked: What do you think of N-word privileges - ie, how people who are black are allowed to say nigger, and queer people are allowed to call things gay?
I’ve never really understood these privileges. Perhaps it’s because I am neither black nor do I identify as queer, but it has always seemed to be to be (kind of) similar to women trying to take the stigma away from words like bitch and slut and reclaiming them.
As I’ve mentioned before, I am all for taking the stigma away o set words do not have a sting and don’t hold any weight when used in a derogatory or hateful manner. However, generally speaking, I suppose I’ve never been one to try and “reclaim” I terms of reshaping and rebranding the words for my own use.
That being said, I don’t think I have any right, as a non-gay and non-person of color, to impose on those that are, how they should come to terms with their own derogatory slurs.
