Anonymous asked: Why do radical feminists blame men as the oppressors? Isn't that a narrow generalization? Wouldn't it be best to expand and just strive to end sexism and the idea of gender? I guess there are so many terms that I get lost in them... We are all looking for the same thing, no?
Radical feminists do not blame men as oppressors, but are against patriarchy. We challenge this institution and want to get rid of it. I absolutely agree that we should strive to end sexism and gender constructs. Pretty much all schools of feminist thought are on board with the ending sexism, but gender roles/stereotypes/binaries have to do with oppressions imposed on men and women alike, as a result of this patriarchy.
Hopefully that clears things up a bit. There are a lot of different terms and I often get lost in the jumble too. In the broadest sense, we do want the same thing, but different feminist philosophies have stronger focus on specific issues than others (think lists that are prioritized differently). Also, they one philosophy may be on board with some things that another does not address, acknowledge, or necessarily advocate. Lastly, different philosophies also cite different reasons for oppression, like for example, some cite more political or economic reasons as opposed to social. :-)
